Kaiserstuhl, Germany’s vulcanic paradise.
In southwest Germany lies a range of hills called Kaiserstuhl. This vulcanic region is little known, but a true paradise for nature and wine lovers.
About the Kaiserstuhl region
The Kaiserstuhl region is one of Germany’s warmest and driest places, thanks to its location. Kaiserstuhl is covered by the rain-shadow of the Vosges Mountains and receives warm Mediterranean air through the Belfort Gap.
The combination of this climate and the loess covered volcanic soils make it an ideal area for wine-producing.
In order to cultivate wine and protect the grounds from erosion the landscape was scaped into terraces, giving the region its distinctive look.
